had I known Peace

by Lluvia Bello

the father breaks the boy within

with a shattered will I put down my flute run into the desert

I try to follow the bread crumbs back home

but the crows pluck my eyes

and the wolves hunt in packs

in the swamps I hide

turn to dew rest with moss

ten years feel like centuries

and at last, between silver holes my lungs unleash

sweet sounds of sorrow for I can never return to the city

with a river separating us from them

filled with the dead dreams and bodies of millions

including my own

Lluvia Bello

Lluvia Bello is a Biracial trans fae (Black and Indigenous to Turtle Island), who goes by the names Lluvia and Bastet. Fae grew up along the Rio Grande and has stayed near the water. Fae subdues at once the belief that the stories of survivors should be obscured and lay it all bare.

Image description: Lluvia Bello is pictured in front of a brick wall. Fae has brown skin, dark brown curly/kinky hair with bangs, bright red lips, and wears a black silky tank top. He has a silvernecklace with charms, including a red hot pepper. In the bottom left corner, an image of leaves is overlaid onto the graphic.
