Gendermental

By Roxanna Bennett

She shuffled on buckled feet unsteadily
down unlit streets     She was incurably romantic
but unfuckably delicate   who was She
anyway but semantics      shorthand

for a surging field designated bodymind
ego/I    the implication that a word means me
so strange      any word      divination by name
is dropping more anchors onto this plane

I want out of  but into the pain is the only
way through     We’re all Mad here & the wait time’s
cruel    This week’s diagnosis is next week’s
detox dilemma    the Dalai Lama

talks of thankfulness long-term bliss not this
quick fix when I micro-hit cannabis

Roxanna Bennett

Gratefully residing on aboriginal land, the disabled poem-making entity known as Roxanna Bennett is the author of The Untranslatable I, Unmeaningable (Gordon Hill Press) & other works.

Image description: Colour photo of a pasty, tired looking white person from the neck up in front of a tree trunk. They are looking at the camera with an expression that they hope is pleasant and inoffensive and doesn’t betray how nervous they are. They have long red messy hair, a silver hoop in their left nostril and are wearing black-rimmed eyeglasses and a grey sweatshirt.
